This new payment method is available at the more than 19,000 Oxxo stores in Mexico and Amazon customers have 48 hours to complete the transaction in cash at an Oxxo store.

Amazon Mexico and Oxxo announced a new way to pay for purchases. This new service allows customers to choose the “pay in cash” option on Amazon’s website and complete their order by paying the exact amount at any of the 19,000 stores available in the country.

By choosing the cash payment method, customers receive a barcode that they must use to pay -within 48 hours- after payment the order will be processed and shipped. The rollout of this option will be fully available in a couple of weeks.

“At Oxxo, our goal is to improve the value proposition we offer. This constant innovation allows customers to satisfy different needs in one place and provide them with the best possible shopping experience. Thanks to this service we are launching with Amazon, we are strengthening the service network by offering consumers more payment solutions processed in real time,” said Santiago Rivera, manager of Electronic and Financial Services at OXXO.

At the same time that Mercado Libre and Paypal advance in the implementation of their new collaborative system, Amazon has now made cash official as a payment method on its platform, and it does so hand in hand with the 19,000 Oxxo stores in the country.

As of September 14, Amazon products can be paid for through Oxxo. Users will be able to opt for cash payment, and will have access to a bar code that they must present at any Oxxo store to make their payment. “This benefit offers users who do not have a credit or debit card one more option to access millions of products” say Amazon and Oxxo in a joint statement.

Unlike Amazon Cash, the new feature does not involve adding a prepaid balance to the account. Once the user pays at Oxxo stores, their deposit is immediately reflected on the platform. Regardless of the new payment method, users can now add balance to Amazon Cash through Oxxo stores.

Amazon and OXXO presented a new payment alternative for customers to have the flexibility to pay for their specific Amazon purchases, without having to have a prepaid card with balance on hand.

In the past, OXXO and Amazon established an alliance so that users could recharge their Amazon Cash account and have balance for all the Amazon purchases they wanted; which is maintained but this new method is added to the payment options in the marketplace.

Having different payment methods is the key to the growth of eCommerce in the country and the retail giant knows this and now brings an additional way to pay for your Amazon Mexico purchases through OXXO store checkouts, just by making a cash deposit after you make a purchase; something very similar to the payment method for Spotify Premium recently launched by the streaming platform.

To pay the process is very simple, once on the Amazon Mexico platform and when you proceed to make your payment, you select the option “cash payment” and complete your order by paying the exact amount in one of the convenience stores that is closest to you.
